Mankins wants Pats to trade him
According to a published report in USA Today, Cathey’s Valley’s favorite NFL son, Logan Mankins, wants to be traded.
The report states that Mankins would refuse to sign the New England Patriots’ contract offer by the midnight deadline on Monday.
Mankins is a restricted free agent who had to sign the $3.26 million offer by Monday’s deadline or risk the Patriots being able to offer him 110 percent of his 2009 salary, which would equate to just about $1.5 million.
According to the publication, Mankins said. “There is no way that I’m signing that thing.”
The MCHS and Fresno State standout who was a first round draft choice after a stellar collegiate career with the Bulldogs, has had two Pro Bowl appearances in three seasons, and he has been seeking a contract extension since the end of the 2008 campaign.
According to the story, Mankins feels betrayed by the Patriots, stating, “After the 2008 season, me and my agent approached the Patriots about an extension and I was told that Mr. Kraft, did not want to do an extension because of the (CBA). I was asked to play '09 out, and that they would address contract after the uncapped year. I'm a team player, I took them at their word, and I felt
played out an undervalued contract.”
Mankins continued,
That's the big thing. Right now, this is about principle with me and keeping your word and how you treat people. This is what I thought the foundation of the Patriots was built on. Apparently, I was wrong. Growing up, I was taught a man's word is his bond. Obviously this isn't the case with the Patriots,” he said.
