Marion Thomas Gwinn

Marion Thomas Gwinn, 87, of King Hill, Idaho, was welcomed to his heavenly home on June 8. He passed away peacefully at the Helping Hands Nursing Home in Gooding, Idaho.

Marion was born on August 4, 1922, in Gilroy, to Wilbur and Amy Gwinn. He grew up on the family ranch that was run by his father and two uncles, Ray and Tom. They grew prunes, hay and raised cattle not only in the Gilroy area but Morgan Hill and San Martin areas as well. He married Hazel Lorene Holbrook on Aug. 4, 1942, at Pacific Grove.

They lived and raised their only child, Judith, at the San Martin ranch until Marion retired from ranching and moved to Mariposa in 1963. Marion couldn't remain retired and went to work for the Mariposa County road department until his retirement in 1990. Never quite leaving his ranching upbringing, he continued to raise cattle and grow hay on their acreage in Mariposa.

Marion and Hazel resided at Gilroy, Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Mariposa. In 2006, Marion moved to King Hill, Idaho to live with his granddaughter, Julie, where he continued his hobbies of wood working, farming, ranching and traveling with Julie to barrel races and rodeos.

Marion is survived by his daughter, Judith Elaine Burton and her husband John, of Mariposa; granddaughter, Julie Ann Burton, of King Hill, Idaho; and grandson, Lawrence Wilbur Burton of Mariposa.

Marion is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Amy and his beloved wife, Hazel.

There was a graveside ceremony at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park , in Gilroy, on Monday June 14 at 11 a.m. Condolences and information are available at habingfamilyfuneralhome. com.
