Election results pending
Although Mariposa County election officials don’t believe the outcome will be any different than what was decided in the June 8 primary election, there is one race that will be confirmed by final vote counting this week.
In the District 1 race for supervisor, former board member Lee Stetson unseated incumbent Brad Aborn by 76 votes from the tally announced late on election night.
According to Courtney Progner in the County’s elections office, there are 803 ballots that have yet to be processed, and 148 are from District 1.
Of the uncounted ballots, 663 are vote-by-mail ballots that were dropped off at polling locations, 80 are provisional which need to be authenticated, 35 are vote-by-mail that were dropped off at the elections office counter on election day, and 25 others.
Wednesday morning Progner said her office hoped to have the remaining ballots processed and counted by the end of the day, but it may take until Thursday. “I know it seems like a slow process, but we would rather get it right that hurry and make an error,” Progner said.
As soon as the results are announced, they will appear on the GAZETTE’S Web site (www.mariposagazette.com) and will be announced in next week’s edition.
Election officials believe the results in all of the other local races will stand once the final count has been made.
