Wichmann to play in all-star tilt

Standout MCHS two-sport athlete Cody Wichmann, who graduated this year, has landed a slot in the 37th annual Lions’ All-Star Football Classic.

Wichmann, 6’6” and 280 pounds, will play for the south team in the contest that kicks off at 7 p.m. in University of Pacific’s Stagg Memorial Stadium on Saturday, June 19.

The rosters are made up of outstanding high school players from throughout Northern California. The south team is practicing at CSU, Stanislaus. The north team is coached by Don Norton of Stagg High School in Stockton, and the south is coached by Roger Canepa of Central Catholic in Modesto.

Wichmann was an All- Southern Athletic League selection in both football and basketball. On the gridiron, he played both ways as a defensive end and tight end, and as the center for the Grizzlies’ SAL championship basketball team, he was awarded most valuable player.

This fall, Wichmann will vye for a starting slot on the Fresno State Bulldogs football team after receiving a full-ride scholarship to that university earlier this year.
