Connie Waldron of Mariposa was recently installed as District V Director, National Society Daughters of American Revolution. District V stretches from Bakersfield to Modesto in the San Joaquin Valley and includes seven local chapters.
Others installed by State Regent Elect, Karon Jarrard, were Jane Blair, assistant director; Evelyn Yancura, chaplin; Karen Montgomery, secretary; and Gayle Mooney, treasurer. Blair is from Hanford, Yancura is from Fresno, Montgomery is from Modesto and Mooney resides in Elk Grove.
Jarrard’s remarks included her theme for her term, “Preserve the Past, Enhance the Present, Invest in the Future,” with her symbol being circles of friendship, service and commitment.
The state theme is taken from a carving on the National Archives Building, “The heritage of the past is the seed that brings forth the harvest of the future.”
Refurbishment of the historic state headquarters will be a major focus of Jarrod’s term. The DAR state house is in Glendora and it was built in 1910, requiring substantial maintenance.
Other state officers elect spoke about their areas. The group heard from the state historian elect who asked the group to plan ahead for the various awards that are given such as outstanding history teacher and the history award medal.
The state librarian elect spoke about preserving genealogical heritage by copying family data from pre- World War II Bibles. This data will be available electronically in the DAR Library and will be presented in book form to the Fresno County Library.
