MSO plans concert
The Mariposa Symphony Orchestra's annual musical salute to America's birth will be held on Saturday, June 26 at 7 p.m. in the Amphitheatre at Mariposa County Park in a concert conducted by the MSO's Founding Music Director Les Marsden.
This year's outdoor concert under-the-stars will offer many patriotic potboilers.
Every year, Marsden invites Mariposa County students aged 8 to 18-years-old to compose their own classical music. All entries are adjudicated by Marsden and the winning composers are awarded $50 and their entries are orchestrated by Marsden. Those pieces will then receive their world-premiere performances at the MSO's "Independence Day Spectacular!" concert. This year's winning entries are: Debby Tiner (age 8) "The Ball Waltz," Christine Garrett (age 10) "The Maiden of Grace," Grace Cassady (age 11) "Colored Breezes," Chrissy Tiner (age 11) "Mustang Music Box", and Juliana Bodfish (age 15) "April Waltz."
The concert will also feature more patriotic music, including the MSO's Dr. Phillip Smith's "Armed Forces Salute,” an annual tribute to our US Service Personnel.
This rousing outdoor concert will be held at the Amphitheatre at Mariposa County Park at 4998 County Park Road, off Stroming Road. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets for the lawn or cushions for the seating area.
