Funds available for food and shelter

Mariposa County has been awarded federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The 2010 grant of $14,495 will be distributed to local nonprofit and public organizations that provide food and shelter assistance. This funding has been awarded by the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board, which is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and consists of representatives from national nonprofits such as The Salvation Army and American Red Cross.

The local board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country. The Salvation Army Service Extension Committee of Mariposa County will determine how Mariposa County’s 2010 award will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations. A request for proposals is currently being extended to qualified organizations.

For applicant requirements and proposal guidelines, contact Janet Gass at 966-3609. The deadline for proposals is Friday, June 25, at 5 p.m. Postmarks will not be accepted.
