Campaign 2010 Campaign 2010 Last Thursday afternoon at 5 p.m. was the filing deadline for candidates seeking local political office to file their 460 forms, their most current financial reports as required by California Election Code.

All of the candidates in contested races made the deadline, unlike the previous filing date. The reports are the last to be filed before next Tuesday’s primary election.

In the race for Mariposa County Auditor between Eric A. Oster and William (Bill) Davis, Oster lists total expenditures to date of $5,580.49. His total contributions are listed at $6,496.29, with $5,636.20 coming from his own pocket. Oster’s primary campaign expenses were for signs, post cards, business cards, and postage.

Current Auditor Chris Ebie announced months ago that he wouldn’t be seeking reelection to a second term.

In the less-than-cordial contest for the District 1 supervisor’s seat, incumbent Brad Aborn lists $4,174 in campaign expenses, and a total of $4,293 in contributions consisting of campaign assistance from individuals and loans. He reports his largest expenses as print advertising and postage.

The challenger in District 1, former supervisor Lee Stetson who was ousted by Aborn four years ago, shows a total of $5,710 in contrbutions received, and that list includes 10 different individuals and $1,000 from the Merced-Mariposa Central Labor Council. Stetson’s stated expenses total $3,103 made up primarily of postage and print advertising.

In the high profile race for Mariposa County Sheriff/Coroner, both candidates have racked up impressive contributions and expenses, far outdistancing any other Mariposa County contest.

Current Undersheriff Doug Binnewies reports a total of $11,383.22 in contributions, including $1,977.22 in nonmonetary receipts. His expenses are reported as totaling $12,609.08. Binnewies’ expenses for print advertising are his largest outlay, and he shows $957.26 in charges for campaign signs.

The contest for District 3 Supervisor contains twice as many candidates as any other local race.

Incumbent Janet Mankins- Bibby reports contributions of $6,059, including $4,850 of her personal funds. Her total expenditures total $5,935.06, mainly for print advertising and brochures.

According to the 460 reports, two candidates in the District III race are upside down in their campaign finances.

Floyd Davis lists $2,135 in total contributions received in the calendar year to date. His expenses are reported at $3,171.79. Davis’s largest outlays have been for yards signs and hall rentals for his “meet the candidate” events.
