MCHS baseball and softball advance, soccer defeated

Grizzlies edge foes in nail-biters

Three MCHS varsity teams opened play in the Sac-Joaquin Section, Division VI playoffs yesterday. Two are advancing, and one is finished for the season.

The Grizzly baseball team beat Lindhurst, 6-5, in a 2-out rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. Austin Garibay's 2-run single gave Mariposa the win and the Grizzlies flooded the field after the winning run crossed the plate.

In softball, freshman Carissa Leonard's 2-run double in the first extra inning (the eighth) lifted the Lady Grizzlies to a 2-0 first round win over Forest Lake Christian.

Mariposa's girls' soccer team lost a shootout to Forest Lake Christian,3-2, in the second overtime to be eliminated from the playoffs.
