Grizzly Stadium fund raising begins
PAVERS LIKE THE ONE PICTURED ABOVE ARE PART OF THE FUND RAISING EFFORTS FOR GRIZZLY STADIUM.
Fund raising efforts for the conversion of the athletic fields between Mariposa County High School and Mariposa Elementary School into Grizzly Stadium are under way.
On Tuesday, May 25, officers of the Associated Student Body of Mariposa County High School will address the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors at around 10 a.m., bringing local officials up to date on the effort, and seeking financial support in the form of Tobacco Settlement funds.
Mariposa County is fully involved because the Mariposa County Unified School District leases the current facility to the county for recreational use. Community members who support the project are urged to attend, however, the agenda item is for informational purposes and time won’t allow those attending to speak on behalf of the project.
In addition, order forms for the brick pavers containing names of alumni, supporters, teachers, staff, administrators and family members are now available at Pioneer Market and the MARIPOSA

office in downtown Mariposa.
A display case showing a sample paver is on display at Pioneer Market, and forms will soon be available on the project Web site at grizzlystadium. com. Questions about the project can be e-mailed to stadium@sti.net.
The pavers, which sell for $150 each or $175 with a business logo, will create a walkway from the ticket house to the main home grandstand once the phased project is completed.
At its last meeting, the Grizzly Stadium Committee, a group of community leaders and citizens determined to complete the effort, selected a chairperson and board of directors to guide the effort. Named to the board were Alan Dayhoff, Dave Gerken, Bob Kelly, Celeste Azevedo, and Marc Farias Jones. Dan Tucker was named the chairman.
A number of other residents who are on the full committee are carrying on assignments of various duties that contribute to the entire effort.
The Grizzly Stadium Committee operates under the banner of the MCHS Quarterback Club, which is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit. Area residents wishing to support the effort, either financially or through the donation of labor or materials, can send inquiries to the e-mail address listed above, or contact any of the committee members.
