Candidate Endorsements

Mariposa County Supervisor, District I - In this race, we endorse former supervisor Lee Stetson. Mr. Stetson stepped forward to address issues surrounding the Ferguson rock slide, even though he was on his way out of office. He has since been an advocate for residents of District 1 and Mariposa County. The incumbent, Brad Aborn, has regrettably resorted to negative campaign tactics, which have no place in the Mariposa County election process.

Mariposa County Supervisor, District 3 - Incumbent Janet Mankins-Bibby has earned this endorsement based on her performance in office, proven track record of fiscal responsibility, and work ethic. Those opposing her for this position, including Tolley Gorham, Theresa Castaldi, and Floyd Davis Jr., we believe appear to be motivated by personal agenda interests rather than service to the constituents of District 3.

Mariposa County Sheriff/Coroner - In this race, there are two quality law enforcement officers competing for the office. We believe both are good men, possessing character and integrity. Each has qualifications and skills in different aspects of law enforcement, and therefore we leave this selection to the voters of Mariposa County.

Mariposa County Auditor - Based on his extensive experience in both the public and private sector, and the size of the budgets and teams he has overseen, William (Bill) Davis is the most qualified and skilled individual to steer the County’s financial ship.

19th Congressional District, Republican Primary - Jeff Denham is the clear and logical choice to represent Mariposa County in the U.S. Congress. He’s not a career politician. He understands the issues facing this country and has demonstrated a sincere concern about the future in his multiple campaign visits to Mariposa County. Denham has paid more attention to the voters of this county than any of the current candidates.

19th Congressional District, Democratic Primary - Mariposa County resident Les Marsden has earned the endorsement in this position. Marsden is intelligent, articulate, and has demonstrated a sincere desire to serve this district.

25th District of the State Assembly, Republican Primary - Kristin Olsen has demonstrated a high level of energy and understanding of the issues facing the State of California. Her experience and communication skills have earned her our endorsement.

You'll notice that this comment is of course made anonymously. That speaks volumes about its validity. The Gazette, in fact, has a policy that it doesn't publish "anonymous" comments on editorial submissions. Individuals that have the fortitude to sign their name to their opinion, we don't believe should be subjected to gutless counterpoints by individuals who don't possess the same gumption. You're dare is excepted, whatever rock you may be under. R.D. Tucker

The Gazette displays the

The Gazette displays the utmost hypocrisy when it endorses candidates but doesn't allow rebuttal comments on its online opinion page. Most likely, the Gazette squelches freedom of speech so it can advance an agenda of manipulating local politics. I dare you to publish this!
