Member of pioneer family is engaged
JESSICA LYNN CARPENTER AND JOHNATHAN TYLER COSTA John and Tephanie Carpenter of Merced have announced the engagement of their daughter, Jessica Lynn Carpenter, to Johnathan Tyler Costa, son of Richard and Melanie Costa of Atwater.
Jessica is a 2004 graduate of a private school and is currently employed by the Merced County School District as a substitute bus driver. Johnathan is a 2004 graduate of Golden Valley High School and is currently employed as a technician for a nursery.
Ray and Joyce Hanks are the prospective bride’s maternal grandparents. George and Mary Carpenter of Mariposa are her paternal grandparents.
Raymond and Dora Affonso of Merced are her maternal grandparents of the groom, and Joe and Tonya Costa of Dos Palos are his paternal grandparents.
Jessica is a descendent of Mariposa County pioneers, Martha Jane Westfall, who came with her sons, Sampson, Charles and James Westfall, to Mariposa County before 1900. Martha’s grandson, Charles Monroe Elliott and his wife, Ida Kennedy, followed from West Virginia in 1907. Charles and Ida settled at what became known as Elliott’s Corner.
Jessica’s great-grandparents are the late James and Jessie (Elliott) Hilton of Chowchilla Mountain Road; and the late Virgil and Loula Carpenter of Merced.
The couple will be married June 11 in Merced.
