We have known Doug Binnewies for over 25 years as a friend, a professional, a servant of our community and a dedicated family man. Doug Bennewies is a man of integrity, fairness, honesty and is the type of friend that can be counted on at all times. There is no doubt in our minds that Doug possesses the qualities of a leader. A good leader has an exemplary character. A good leader is enthusiastic about his work or cause and also leads by example. A good leader is confident and experienced. This describes Doug.

Doug has been continually promoted by and is endorsed by all four sheriffs under whom he has served. He currently is trusted with the position of undersheriff and can handle all the duties of sheriff. He is not only involved with law enforcement in Mariposa County but he has served on various California State law enforcement associations. His law enforcement training is wide-spread. He has authored several grants in order to enhance our local services and has experience in major crime and homicide investigation along with extensive disaster and emergency response knowledge.

After college Doug took time to ride a bicycle across America in order to raise money for Mariposa Schools’ Athletic Programs as a member of the 1990 Ride Across America Team. He has continued this type of community commitment and dedication throughout his career in the sheriff’s department. He is presently on the Juvenile Justice Commission, Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Commission, Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, Emergency Medical Care Committee and has served and is serving as an officer in several professional organizations. Doug has volunteered many hours as a baseball, softball and soccer coach. He is an active church member and dedicated family man.
