In Tuesday afternoon’s Southern Athletic League golf tournament, Mariposa’s golf team finished second to perennial champ Turlock Christian.

The Grizzlies carded a team total of 438, 27 strokes behind the Eagles with a stroke total of 411. Waterford finished a distant third with 536, and Le Grand wound up in the cellar with 626.

Turlock Christian’s top three golfers scored better than Mariposa’s best card, an 84 posted by sophomore Tim DeSandres. Parker Shaddix finished with an 85 for the Grizzlies, followed by Garhett Bauer at 88, freshman Liam Fieldsted at 90, and Andrew Allen with a 91. Fieldsted had been Mariposa’s top performer through the regular league season, but on Tuesday DeSandres led the team. Garrett Simpson shot a non-scoring 94, and all 6 qualify for divisional play on May 10
