KIDS Club knits for Children’s Hospital
MES KIDS CLUB MEMBERS SHOW THE HATS THEY KNITTED FOR CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL CENTRAL CALIFORNIA.
K.I.D.S. Club staff and participants feel that community involvement and awareness is critical to the success of the Mariposa Elementary School after school program. Again this year, K.I.D.S. Club made both Christmas and Valentine’s cards for residents of the Ewing Wing. All cards were made from recycling previously used materials.
To further this awareness, it was decided to include groups who might benefit from the group’s desire to help others. One challenge was to learn to knit and complete a set goal of hats for children who are patients at Valley Children’s Hospital. The majority of club members are aware of Children’s Hospital and know someone who has been seen there, some had also been a patient at the hospital. Many also knew that children with an illness such as cancer might lose their hair and would appreciate a warm hat. Discussion brought full approval from the students that the group’s project would be for Children’s Hospital. This project was accepted readily by the children and all interested tried their hand at knitting. The club recently completed its goal of 30 hats which were delivered to the hospital.
The success of this program is a result of dedicated members, their families and staff. Should you need further information about KIDS Club, contact Marty Livingston, teacher/coordinator at 742- 4232.
