MCHS nabs second in SAL girls’ meet
In last Friday’s Southern Athletic League track meet at Atwater High School, Mariposa’s varsity girls team claimed a second place finish with 92 points behind league champ Turlock Christian with 140.
Waterford finished third at 74, followed by Denair with 32 and Delhi with 18.
The Lady Grizzlies had a pair of medalists. Junior Hanna Townsend won both the shot put and discus throw for Mariposa. She heaved the shot 34’ 6.5” and tossed the discus 86’ to claim first place in both events. Her mark in the shot put was a personal record, and it places her fourth in the all-time MCHS record book behind Mel Rodrigues, Lynn Smith, and Natasha Godbey.
Speedy junior Melissa Caputo captured the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.3. She garnered a pair of silver medals with a time of 1:12.33 in the 400-meter dash and a 30.33 in the 200-meter dash.
Teammate senior Emily Tuggle was a close third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 22.56. She claimed the silver medal in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.08. Tuggle also finished third in the high jump, just in front of teammate Stefani Jantz in fourth.
Sophomore Andie Frei had an outstanding meet, scoring in three different events. She took second place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 7:10.11. She was followed closely over the finish line by teammate Daniella Rogerson with a third place time of 7:11.15.
Frei also took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:16, and she claimed fifth in the long jump with a bond of 10’ 7.5”.
