Turkey shooter comes forward
Following last week’s report on the turkey that was illegally killed and hung in Mariposa, a juvenile has come forward to take responsibility for the crime. The juvenile’s father read the story and confronted him, and he admitted that he had killed the turkey.
District Attorney Bob Brown said that the teen and his parents contacted them through their attorney. The teen told the responding deputy that he and two of his friends were walking around the area of the proposed “field of dreams” on March 7. They had brought some climbing rope and a BB-gun.
The group encountered a flock of turkeys, and the teen shot one, hitting it in the head, killing it immediately. The boys then made a noose from the climbing rope and hung the turkey in the tree.
The teen said he was the only one respon- sible for shooting the turkey. He also said he did not have a valid hunting license.
Game Warden Frank Milazzo brought the case to light last week, in hopes that some publicity would help him find the shooter. The turkey was killed before the season started, and because it was left hanging in the tree, is considered a waste of game.
