More victims emerge in Hull case

BY JILL BALLINGER GAZETTE EDITOR

MATT HULL MATT HULL Following last week’s story about the embezzlement case against Matthew Hull, two more victims have come forward. Law enforcement officials expect that new charges will be filed against Hull this week.

According to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s report, the manager of the Miner’s Inn Motel contacted law enforcement after reading last week’s GAZETTE story about Hull. The manager said that in November, 2008, she had contacted Hull at Technique Computers and asked about having a computerized management system installed at the motel.

Hull prepared a quote of $11,505 for the business. He was given a $1,500 deposit to get started.

The manager said that she and Hull had worked out a schedule to phase in the project. Then Hull allegedly contacted her and said “he really needed the full amount of money for the project up-front” to get the necessary equipment. Miner’s Inn paid him the remaining $10,005.

Project dates came and went, and Hull failed to do any of the work as listed on the time line. The manager said Hull had excuses after excuses, but still failed to complete the work.

In March of last year, Miner’s Inn demanded that Hull either start doing the work or repay them. Hull drafted a new work order, dated March 10, 2010. Again the date came and went with no work.

The Miner’s Inn did successfully sue Hull for the amount owed. The civil suit, however, does not bar the district attorney from pursuing criminal action.

A second victim, the managing partner of the Comfort Inn, also contacted the sheriff’s office and reported that he had paid $480 to have a computer tower built in November, 2009. Even though he contacted Hull several times since then, he never received the product. Hull gave him a myriad of excuses, too.

Hull is scheduled to be back in court on April 13 for a sentencing hearing. The district attorney’s office is still reviewing the new cases and has not yet filed new charges against Hull.

Its interesting how a guy who

Its interesting how a guy who served Mariposa county for so long is now the super villan of the week. Did anyone chase down Randonovich after he walked away with $500K of investors money for his "winery"? Its hard to believe that overnight this guy went from being a VBS volunteer, church member and attendee, boy scout, US Army Paratrooper and a devoted husband and father - to suddenly being the super villan of the week for the DA. There must not be enough cats crossing the road, cows breaking through fences and car wrecks in the county for this to have been such a big story. People should have been thankful they didn't have to drive to the valley to get a computer tune up - I guess then they'd charge him with neglect and endangering someones peace of mind. This is a dog and pony show and I think at worst, Matt needs to publicly apologize, make financial ammends, and seek management training.

Well I dont know what else to

Well I dont know what else to think when he takes peoples money and does not render services or supply goods.

I'm not understanding why

I'm not understanding why this is such big news, or why this is being pursued by the D.A. If I am to correctly read this article, Hull has already been "brought to justice" in a civil action. I'd be interested to know how much this case is costing the already overburdened tax payers of California. Does the public realize that all the costs incurred by an overzelous D.A. are payed by them? Why has the D.A. decided to pursue criminal charges? This seems like a case that was closed. What a waste of tax payer dollars....AGAIN. If it is an issue of another person needing their money let the civil courts handle it, that's what they are there for. How pathetic.

Search "Hull" hear on

Search "Hull" hear on mariposagazette.com, what do you find? 3 of Matt's 4 children have each been in the newspaper for something amazing. Kids For Generosity? How could a man who's out to RIP PEOPLE OFF or STEAL be raising children so generous and loving? To see what kind of man he really is, look at his children.

i completely agree with this

i completely agree with this comment...the hulls are an incredible family and matt is an incredible husband and father...
