Jackson honored for excellence in fire fighting

KEVIN JACKSON II KEVIN JACKSON II Kevin Jackson II, the son of Kevin and Dawn Jackson of Mariposa, has been named the winner of the Bank of America certificate of excellence for fire fighting trades. He was selected for the honor by the Mariposa County High School faculty.

Jackson is a senior at Mariposa County High School, where he is on the wrestling team, participates in the Grizzly Fire program and is chief engineer. He is a member of the FFA forestry team and a volunteer for Mariposa County Fire Station 27.

While in high school, his achievements have been many. They include being named Firefighter of the Year and Wildland Firefighter of the Year in 2009. He received the coach’s award in wrestling in 2009 and has a host of grand champions from feeder calf to meat pigeons and turkeys. Jackson finished sixth high in the state in FFA forestry competition in 2009, as well as placing fourth high and fifth high at competitions at Reedley College.

Jackson plans to become a firefighter with any agency and attend either Columbia or Reedley College to study fire and forestry.
