GAZETTE enhances Web site for visitors
To make its Web site more “user friendly,” the MARIPOSA GAZETTE (www.mariposagazette. com) has added some new features.
When visitors click on the highlighted “full story” key on the home page, they are taken to the complete story. With new enhancements, visitors can now share the story via several social media sites, including Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace, among others. They can also e-mail the articles, or save the page as a bookmark. A “share” window appears above each story for easy access and use.
Other editorial policies have also been adopted. Comments are not allowed on the “letters to the editor” submissions. Submitted comments on all stories are also first delivered to an approval queue, since there have been comments made that contained unacceptable language and subjects. Those comments are screened daily, and either approved for publication, or deleted, depending on the individual merits of each comment.
Additionally, at the top left of the home page, a tab identified as “Get News Updates” allows area residents to receive updates via e-mail as soon as stories are loaded on the site.
“We strongly suggest that anyone seeking up-to-date local news coverage enter their e-mail address in that tab,” said Publisher R.D. Tucker.
By the end of this month, the GAZETTE editorial staff will be equipped with Ipads, which, through Golden State Cellular’s 3G service, will allow reports from wildland fires, traffic collisions, community events, and sports competitions to be immediately loaded on the Web site, along with photographs, to keep visitors instantly up to date with local and regional news.
