Coulterville-Greeley holds awards assembly
Coulterville-Greeley Hill Elementary students have been busy with many activities, boys and co-ed basketball games, a school-wide snow trip to Leland Snow Park, the Literacy Conference in Hickman, the storytelling contest and the storyteller assembly. Those activities would not have been possible without the donations of the Northside Women’s Club, the Greeley Hill Senior Club and the Coulterville Greeley School Parent Club.
Club Live is back at the school. A former student, Ashley Beard, has volunteered to work with the school’s seventh and eighth graders. Their first activity is a community service clean-up at Red Cloud Park. After they have the park cleaned-up and free of cigarette butts as part of the smoke free play area Proposition 99 program, they will enjoy some snacks and play some games.
Students in grades six through eight submitted writing pieces to be reviewed and judged at the Literacy Conference at Hickman Charter School. At the conference the students participated in workshops with published authors, and had their own literature pieces evaluated. Sierra Burkart received a bronze award, the best from the school, for the poem she submitted. All participants were given an anthology of all the students’ stories.
Deana Lessley, under the direction of Karen Rust, put together the Sunshine Club, a welcoming spot to meet with some of the younger students, one-on-one, for non-directive play to enhance their academic and social adjustment. This program was at the school a few years ago, and was well received. The service is provided through a grant that four schools in the district received.
