Technique owner jailed for bilking clients

The owner of the now-defunct Technique Computers in Mariposa has been arrested and charged with embezzlement. Matt Hull, 31, of Mariposa was arrested on March 24.

The arrest followed months of investigation into the aftermath of Hull’s business failing.  Dozens of people have contacted the sheriff’s office since the business abruptly closed its doors. Now, three victims are part of what has become a criminal case.

For complete details on the arrest, see this week’s edition of the Mariposa Gazette.

This just shows how the economy is right now. It will be interesting to see if people of the community "rally around him" or throw him out.

This is an area where it pays

This is an area where it pays to check. All businesses repairing electronics are supposed to be registered with the CA Consumer Affairs. You wouldn't (or shouldn't) have an unlicenced contractor work on your home, or repair your car. So why should you have an unlicenced business work on your computor? Dealing with a licenced person doesn't entirely assure you won't have a problem, but it will be resolved much more quickly when the State is involved. And the repairman has more incentive to do right by you, because he can lose his licence. Always go to the CA Consumer Affairs website and check to see if the business you are considering is licenced. And believe me, there are many in Mariposa County that should be who are not.
