In six games this preseason, Mariposa’s varisty girls’ soccer team has proven to be consistent.
After last Saturday’s 1-0 loss at the hands of Buchach Colony’s Thunder, Mariposa stood a 2 wins, 2 loses, and a pair of ties.
After battling through a scoreless first half, Buchach scored in the 60th minute of the contest when a shot squirted away from Mariposa’s senior goalkeeper Carrie McNally, and a Thunder player connected on a follow-up shot.
Last Tuesday, Mariposa posted a 3-2 victory over Bret Harte on the Bullfrogs’ home field.
The Lady Grizzlies broke the ice first when sophomore striker Katie Montgomery dribbled past the Bret Harte sweeper and drilled a shot off the bottom lip of the goal post for a 1-0 Mariposa lead.
The Bullfrogs battled back, and dominated the balance of the first period, outshooting Mariposa 12-2 and connected on a pair of shots for a 2-1 advantage at the intermission.
“This was really a tale of two halves,” said head coach Ray Gregory. “We really played much, much better in the second half.”
The Lady Grizzlies knotted the score at 2-2 in the 60th minute when midfielder Sara Biro was fouled in the penalty box. Shelby Ostrowski took the penalty kick and snapped the net for the goal.
With just 3 minutes left in the game, Biro took an pass from Carrie Waheed and connected on a tough angle shot to put Mariposa in front, 3-2.
The Grizzlies open Southern Athletic League play on Thursday afternoon when they host Le Grand’s Bulldogs.
