BROOK BARRETT, PICTURED ABOVE, WAS THE ONLY LADY GRIZZLY NAMED ALL-SAL., BROOK BARRETT, PICTURED ABOVE, WAS THE ONLY LADY GRIZZLY NAMED ALL-SAL., At the recent meeting of the Southern Athletic League girls’ basketball coaches to select All-SAL players, Mariposa’s Lady Grizzlies were left in the shadows, even though they finished tied for third place in league competition.

Only senior guard Brook Barrett landed enough votes to earn a slot of the All-SAL second team. Granted, the 2009-10 team faced more challenges than others in recent years, but in the coaches’ voting, every other team in the league, except Mariposa, got two players named honorable mention.

Barrett led Mariposa in scoring with 9.3 points per game on a team that averaged just 32.2 points per contest. She also averaged 4.4 rebounds per game, good enough for second on the team which was led by senior, Patricia Schellentrager, with 4.8 caroms per game.

The Grizzlies finished the season with an 11-14 overall mark, and went 7-8 in SAL play, which landed them in a tie for third place with Waterford, which they whipped two out of three times.
