Marilyn Lea Kendall

Marilyn Lea Kendall was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Augusta, Maine and passed away Feb. 25 due to complications from heart bypass surgery. She was a resident of Mariposa for 25 and a half years.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles Otis Kendall, Jr.; her sister, Donna Church Bryant, Portland, ME; sister, Caroline Schultz of Eustis, FL; daughter, Catherine Leigh Kendall of Lake Tahoe; her daughter, Sara Jane Hogg and her son, Paul Otis Kendall both of Mariposa; and her daughter Ruth Marie Bulpe of Sacramento; granddaughters, Cristal Daniels of Mariposa and Alexis Russell of Merced; and her great granddaughter, Brooke Daniels of Mariposa.

Marilyn dedicated her life to service of others. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education, a master’s degree in counseling psychology and a bachelor’s degree in theological studies.

She specialized in remedial reading and special education teaching all levels from elementary school through college. She founded and served as the first president of the Butterfly Garden Club in Mariposa in 1984. She served as deacon of Saint Andrews Anglican Church in Mariposa for the last 18 years. She served as chaplain of the Hospice Agency at John C Fremont Healthcare District. She was instrumental in the community in many ways from leading a bereavement group to visiting those in need of counseling whether pastoral or personal. Her loves were her family, animals, community and church.

Memorial services will be held Sat. March 13 at 2 p.m. at Saint Luke’s Anglican Church, 350 West Yosemite Avenue in Merced. Donations can be made to the SPCA, American Heart Society or the Catnip Society of Mariposa.
