DeLaMare named Engineer of the Year

LEE AND TOM DELAMARE ARE PICTURED AT THEIR MODESTO HOME. TOM WAS RECENTLY NAMED ENGINEER OF THE YEAR BY THE SAN JOAQUIN ENGINEERS COUNCIL. BOTH ARE GRADUATES OF MARIPOSA COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. The San Joaquin Engineers Council has announced Tom DeLaMare as the recipient of the distinguished 2010 Engineer of the Year Award.

DeLaMare began his career in 1957 where he worked for the City of Modesto on the survey crew as an engineering aide. He received his land surveyor license in 1967 and his professional engineering registration in 1983. He has attended Modesto Junior College, U.C. Berkeley and California State University, Stanislaus. He joined Roy E. Fredrickson & Associates in 1959 as a survey party chief and became a part owner in the 1970’s. In 1980, along with Dick Fultz, DeLaMare purchased the company and created what is now known as DeLaMare Fultz Engineering & Surveying.

DeLaMare’s career has spanned decades in the Modesto area where his firm served as the City Engineer for the City of Oakdale and other small cities. He is a member of the Modesto Construction Industry Liaison Committee (CILC) and provides his expertise reviewing subdivision standards. He is active in the Building Industry Association of Central California (BIACC) where he was honored as the Associate of the Year in 2005. In 1991

DeLaMare was honored by the BIACC with the Associate Director of the Year Award and in 1999 received the President’s Award. He is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) formally Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors (CELSOC) and the California Land Surveyors Association (CLSA) and served as board member and chapter president of each. He is a lifetime member of the Modesto Engineer’s Club and is currently serving as a member of the planning commission, the Airport Land Use Commission and the Nuisance Abatement Board for Stanislaus County. His many years of experience have made him an invaluable resource for other engineers and surveyors.

DeLaMare was born in Nevada City, but grew up in Mariposa, where his mother, Marge, still resides. He graduated from Mariposa County High School in 1955 and Modesto Junior College in 1960. Along with his wife of 53 years, Lee, they have raised four children, two girls and two boys, and are now enjoying the company of four grandchildren. Lee was a 1957 graduate of MCHS. The DeLaMares have made their home in Modesto since 1957.
