Safe at Home fair set for March 27

2010-03-04 / Inside Education

The community is invited to attend Safe At Home, a free family fun fair on Saturday, March 27 at Mariposa Elementary School beginning at 10 a.m. Safe At Home is an annual event organized by Mariposa Safe Families, Inc. to promote Child Abuse Prevention Month. The free family fun fair is intended to link participants to services and opportunities that will support children and the families raising them.

This year Safe At Home has a theme of “Develop the Helmet Habit.” To help promote this theme the members of Sanctuary, a BMX bike shop from Oakhurst, have been invited to perform bike and skateboarding demonstrations while showing the proper use of safety equipment.

In addition, families may visit free health screening stations such as vision and scoliosis screening. A free healthy snack with suggestions on healthy eating habits will be provided as well.

The Easter Bunny will once again be at the event leading the Easter egg hunts that will be held throughout the day. The egg hunts will be held for children up to age 4 beginning at 10:30 a.m., ages 5 to 8 at 11:30 and ages 9 to 12 at 12:30 p.m.

Booths will be open representing organizations and agencies throughout Mariposa County that promote healthy and stable families. Some of the agencies represented at the event include Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department, Infant/Child Enrichment Services, 4-H, and John C Fremont Hospital. Safe at Home will also feature child identification cards and a bike rodeo provided by sheriff’s department.

For questions about the event or to find out how to have a free booth space to promote services that support families call Mariposa Safe Families at 966-2211.
