Patrons honor Bauer and plan for annual enchilada dinner
Dorothy Bauer was recently honored by the members of the Hornitos Patrons’ Club with their back room at the Golden Stag Hall being named after her. Everyone can see the honor at this Saturday’s 61st annual Hornitos Enchilada Dinner.
Bauer, who is in her 90's is a spry, hard-working member of the Patrons’ Club. Anyone who will be at the enchilada dinner on March 6, can peek in the back room and there will be Bauer, on her folding stool, heating all the wonderful garlic bread that is served with the meal.
For years, the Patrons’ members have tried to get Bauer out in the front where everyone coming through for dinner could meet and greet her, but her modesty keeps her from participating in that manner. She will always be in the back kitchen with her garlic bread and the cole slaw dressing she makes for the dinner.
Not only does Bauer help with all of the dinner preparation during the week leading up to this event, she is a wealth of information on past dinners and the way the various parts of the meal are put together. She truly is the matriarch of Hornitos, a wonderful cook and a joy to its residents, including all the small children of the community.
At the annual flea market in October, Bauer has a booth selling many donated white elephant items with all the proceeds going toward the Christmas gifts for the community children. Plus for years, she has encouraged the organization in its donations to the student loan fund, Sober Grad Night and the Manna House to just name a few of the charitable donations made by the Hornitos Patrons’ Club.
The 61st annual Hornitos Enchilada Dinner will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. at Stag Hall this Saturday. In addition to the dinner, entertainment will be provided.
