Rosander takes helm as acting superintendent

Controversial and embattled schools superintendent, Randy Panietz, is no longer serving in that post for the Mariposa County Unified School District, according to a statement issued Friday by the district.

The statement partially states, "The Board has expressed its desire to transition to new leadership as soon as possible. To this end, Mr. Panietz and the Board have mutually agreed that effective March 5, 2010 Mr. Panietz will no longer serve as Superintendent."

In closed session at its meeting Thursday evening, the school board appointed Assistant Superintendent Aaron Rosander as Acting District Superintendent. Rosander also formerly served as the principal of Mariposa County High School and Lake Don Pedro Elementary School.

Our district has lost a good administrator. Randy was my principal when I taught at Lake Don Pedro. He was great! I will remember him as a warm, caring person who always put the students first. I'd be delighted to have him as my principal again.

I feel this is a good move by the school board, but I wonder if they are paying Mr. Panietz for the remaining 4 months of his contract. That's a lot of money for someone no longer working. That money would be well-spent on other programs that are suffering.
