Planning begins for 'Scramble'
Saturday, May 8, is the date for the third annual Gold Rush Scramble Golf Tournament to be held at Lake Don Pedro Golf and Country Club. Last year’s tournament, hosted by the Mariposa County Chamber of Commerce and Greeley Hill Market, provided a day of golf followed by a dinner and awards banquet.
The success of last year’s event can be credited to all those who participated and to the sponsorship of community businesses and individuals. The event was held as a fund raiser to benefit Mariposa County Fire Stations 24, 26 and 31. A portion of the proceeds were also shared with three local clubs and organization entries: Community Connections, a community service organization that was formed fiveyears ago to provide meals every Wednesday at nocharge and a place for friends and neighbors to gather and get acquainted. Their submission letter indicated the need for contributions to help with their insurance premium of $1,600. The Shindig Committee, the second entry, requested proceeds to help fund their efforts to build a community stage in Coulterville Park.
The committee hosts an annual event in August, the Sultry Summer Shindig, to help raise funds for this community project. The final entry, the Northern Mariposa County History Center, has been a focal point of the North County community for almost 40 years. Proceeds are slated to help replace the rear stairway and patio that connect the main building to the separate rear office.
Sponsors will be contacted in the next few weeks. Visit the chamber Web site at www.mariposachamber.org or call 966-2456 for more information.
