Burglars strike county

Three separate incidents of burglary yielded some very different results for alleged criminals in Mariposa County last week. The accusations range from theft of church donations to medical marijuana to a couple cases of beer.

Mountain View Market in Midpines was hit by beer burglars over the weekend. The crime was reported on Feb. 21 after citizens reported a broken window.

According to the sheriff’s report, the door of the market had been kicked in. There was no money missing, but several cases of beer were taken. A store employee estimated the value of the beer at $93.27. Sheriff’s deputies have been in contact with a number of people, and the case remains under investigation. No arrests have been made.

The following day, the secretary at New Life Christian Fellowship reported that she found the door of the church open on Feb. 22. She found the office key in the lock on her office door, and the door was wide open.

Initially, she didn’t think it was that unusual because many people have access and keys. When she went to retrieve the donation jar, she found it missing, but noticed it didn’t appear to have been forcibly removed. The jar contained about $2,000 in mostly checks written by church members, but also some cash.

The church’s pastor told deputies that nothing like this had ever happened before. According to the sheriff’s report, however, the pastor believes “it was someone who didn’t want the church to have the money.”

On Feb. 23, deputies responded to a verbal dispute. The victim told officers she and Dylan Hurrle were having an argument. She said she wanted him to leave, but he would not. When he finally did, he took two pounds of her medical marijuana.

While the deputy was interviewing the victim, Hurrle came back to retrieve a pair of shoes. The officer met him at the door. Hurrle was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, but denied taking the marijuana. Hurrle was arrested without incident and is in custody at the Mariposa County Jail on a parole hold.
