Accused burglars change pleas to guilty

KOREY UNTI KOREY UNTI The two men accused of burglarizing a North County property appeared in Mariposa County Superior Court on Feb. 22. During their appearance, they each changed their plea from not guilty to guilty.

The change apparently came as part of a deal that stipulates that each man will get four years in state prison for the crime. The burglary occurred earlier this year in the Anderson Valley area of Northern Mariposa County.

Timothy Bass and Korey Unti were arrested after US Forest Service rangers found them in the Anderson Valley area with a car trailer loaded with property.

Bass told deputies that he had gone camping in the area recently and decided to return. He said when they got there, they saw a Ford pick-up with a gun in the cab. He added that there were some items in the bed of the pickup, too.

Unti said he and Bass had a trailer full of stuff that didn’t belong to them because they found it and “were on their way down to the sheriff’s department sub-station to turn it in.”

Unti, who is a striking presence because he has a tattoo of a pig’s head on his own head among many other facial tatoos, is on parole and remains in the Mariposa County Jail while he awaits formal sentencing. Bass is also in jail until sentencing.
