It certainly isn’t the match-up he was hoping for, but MCHS head coach Trace DeSandres will put his unbdefeated Southern Athletic League champions on the floor in the Loyd Hobby Gymnasium Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Christian Brothers.

It will be the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs, and the Grizzlies haven’t advanced past the first round since 2006.

Ironically, it will be 10 years to the day (Feb. 24) that Mariposa’s Logan Mankins scored 40 points against the Falcons to advance the Grizzlies in the playoffs.

The two teams have met again twice since that date in 2000, and MCHS has come out on the short end.

“I think this is a great opportunity for us,” DeSandres said. “I know they will be battle-tested, but if we play like we are capable we certainly have a good chance to win this game.”
