Patrons plan for 61st enchilada feed
The 61st annual Hornitos enchilada dinner will take place on Saturday, March 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Golden Stag Hall in Hornitos.
Organizers are looking forward to the performance of Rancho Valencia, Spanish dancing horses; and Sol Del Valle, a young dance group; from 6 p.m. Vendors will present their local, handmade crafts and western music entertainment.
Featured are the famous enchiladas or delicious chicken pie, accompanied by beans, salsa, cole slaw, garlic bread, beverages and dessert. Donations are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Take-out cold and hot orders are available.
The enchilada dinner is the major fund raising event of the Hornitos Patrons Club. The club members are responsible for numerous projects and activities in Hornitos and Mariposa County. These include Salvation Army for Haiti, medical emergency kit for Hornitos, student trips for Mariposa FFA, two high school scholarships, a large refrigerator for Stag Hall, weed abatement of the cemetery, foster care, termite spraying of Stag Hall, field trips for Cathey’s Valley School, and preservation of Hornitos history with maps and plaques.
The club also hosts the annual flea market on Sunday, Oct. 3, and All Souls Day candle lighting ceremony on Nov. 2. For more information, call 376-2320 or go to hornitospc.com.
