DVA mobile center helps vets readjust

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Mobile Vet Center (MVC) is a program aimed at the underserved veteran populations of rural America. Its primary mission is to help war zone veterans readjust to civilian life.

DVA does that by helping the veteran identify problems and then offering individual, family and group counseling for a host of issues including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), military sexual trauma, and bereavement. Vet centers provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to all veterans who served in any combat zone.

Services are also available for their family members for military-related issues. Veterans have earned these benefits through their service and all are provided at no cost to the veteran or family. While these programs have been available for years at veteran centers in Modesto and Fresno, the new mobile facility can go anywhere there is a need.

The MVC will be coming to the Coulterville VFW Thomas Jenkins Post #9454 at 5019 Main Street on Feb. 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Feb. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Veteran Service Officers will be on hand to review benefits. The program has helped many local veterans and their families with filing for their benefits. For more information, contact Louis Bickford at 878-3369.
