With just a 2-point third quarter, Mariposa's Lady Grizzlies dropped a 38-28 Southern Athletic League contest at Le Grand Tuesday evening, but the MCHS JV team recorded a victory, 33-24, to secure sole possession of the SAL title.

The loss drops Mariposa to 6-8 in SAL play this season, and the Lady Grizzlies will travel to Denair to close out the season on Thursday.

In the junior varsity game, Mariposa took a18-13 advantage at the intermission and gained as much as a 14-point lead in the second half. Keily Johnson poured in 11 points for Mariposa. Athletic Director and veteran coach Loyd Hobby said, "It was our defense that pulled this out. I'm really proud of how far they have come this year, and boy do they know how to celebrate."

The victory clinched the Southern Athletic League title for the JVs with a 13-1 league record. They will travel to Denair to round out the season on Thursday.
