PG&E’s SmartMeters being installed

There is no shortage of debate about the “smart” level of PG&E’s new SmartMeter. Whether the energy giant’s customers want it or not, its coming to almost 10 million PG&E patrons, and installation has begun in Mariposa County.

According to Paul Moreno, a PG&E spokesperson in Chico, SmartMeter installations are targeted to be made in Mariposa County beginning this month, and running through August.

I am telling everyone right

I am telling everyone right now...this issue may not impact us this month or next month, but when the 'Meters are Online and summer rolls around with all of us trying to stay cool running our air-conditioners, this topic will surely be a 'hot one'! Young Ebony Teens

From the way I read how Smart

From the way I read how Smart Meters operate, the rates increase for electricity usage during peak hours so all you who rely on airconditioners during summer months will really pay if you use them after 7 p.m.! Supposedly, you are able to monitor your usage by going online, calling up your account, reading your chart and then decreasing your electricity usage accordingly. Too bad if you suffer from the heat; PG&E doesn't care.

The new "smart" meters are

The new "smart" meters are NOT smart. Already having problems with over billing. Bill is usually $39.00 a month last month was $239.00. PG&E says, "oops" my bad and we are now waiting to find out if they have fixed the problem. Smart they are not.

Had a smart meter before. No

Had a smart meter before. No more worrying about your gates being left open. They seemed to be pretty reliable after the first one was defective. I would rather have a smart meter so I can take this PG&E lock off my gate and ACRT no longer has access enless I'm home. Really tired of them roaming all over the place at will.

In response to the

In response to the SmartMeter's being installed article: I tried to 'opt-out' of the installation and was told by a Customer Service Rep. that I could NOT. I am concerned, and you should be too, with what I read on the internet. In Bakersfield, they are suing over complaints from residents that their new Pacific Gas & Electric smart meters are overcharging them. PG&E denies the allegations, of course. (http://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/pge-sued-over-smart-meters-s... ) While investigations are still being conducted on the reliability of these so called Green Smart Meters, why is Pacific Gas and Electric still going forward with the installs?
