Grapplers upend Riverbank; now 3-0 in TVL meets

Last Wednesday, Mariposa hosted a combined Riverbank/ Denair wrest-ling team in a Trans Valley League dual meet and came away with a 45-33 victory to move to 3-0 in league action.

“Our middle weights are wrestling very solidly right now,” said head coach Scott Seymour. “Our skill level as a squad is increasing with each match.”

At 103 pounds, Grizzly Will Auble won by forfeit before Mariposa forfeited the 112- pound match.

Mariposa’s Ryan Thompson was pinned in his 119-pound contest before the Grizzlies claimed the next four matches in a row.

At 125 pounds, Mariposa’s Eric Pope handily pinned his foe for a 6-point score. Grizzly Justin Long nailed his opponent to the mat at 130 pounds, and at 135 pounds, Mariposa’s Joe Grabowski won by forfeit. Mariposa’s Chris Sherrill pinned his opponent in their 140-pound match to complete the four-match sweep.

At 145 pounds, Mariposa’s Colin Ritter dropped a 9-3 decision. Standout Grizzly Matt Mason registered a win at 152 pounds with a 6-1 decision, and Alex Harrington picked up a win for Mariposa in his 160-pound match by forfeit.

At 171 pounds, Mariposa’s Dennis Blessing was pinned, as was Grizzly Donovan Griffith at 189 pounds. Grizzly Keenan Johnson won by forfeit at 215 pounds.

At their next home match on Feb. 3, the first 20 fans will receive free admission, courtesy of Pony Expresso. The junior varsity competition begins at 6:30 p.m., immediately followed by the varisty contests.
