BOBBY LINDSEY BOBBY LINDSEY

Los Angeles

County

Sheriff ’s Office

Commander,

Bobby Lindsey,

is campaigning

for

the position

of sheriff of

Mariposa County.

Lindsey, who has been leasing

a residence in the County since

last November, says he is currently

negotiating for a piece of

property to establish permanent

residence.

He will square off against two

long-time Mariposa County

law enforcement officers in Undersheriff

Doug Binnewies and

Sergeant Mark Jones in the June

primary election.

Lindsey said he picked Mariposa

County because he “has

been coming to Mariposa for

some time, and has been visiting

Yosemite” since about age 18.

“I have a very good friend

who has retired up here, and

this is primarily where I plan to

retire and spend the rest of my

life,” Lindsey said.

The retiring commander said

he is “somewhat” familiar with

Mariposa County, but he

wouldn’t be relying on staff to educate him on the County’s geography and history. “As sheriff, I would be in every community learning and educating myself,” Lindsey said.

He launched his campaign online before the first of the year at www.bobbylindsey4sheriff.com, and some of the comments contained on that home page prompted several calls and emails to the GAZETTE.

One statement, “Despite my decades of experience within the largest sheriff’s department in the world, I am told by a few unbelieving politicians, long-time pessimists and ‘Good Old Boys’ that I haven’t paid by Mariposa dues,” he wrote.

“I have been apprised that the citizens of Mariposa County don’t care if their sheriff has qualifications. More imporant than the sheriff having policing skills, real management experience, and a bachelor’s degree is that they have graduated from Mariposa High School or have lived in the community for many years,” Lindsey’s statement said.

Lindsey attributes that statement to local residents and denies that that is his personal view. “I have talked to 40 to 50 people about the campaign so far,” Lindsey told the GAZETTE Monday.

Lindsey also said the statement, “Spend your money wisely on someone willing to engage and not just warm the seat,” is not directed at current Sheriff Brian Muller. “I am not going to come in from LA County and tell you he (Muller) is not doing a good job. He may be doing an outstanding job, but I don’t know that yet,” Lindsey said.

The content of that home page has changed drastically in the last two weeks.

Lindsey said be plans to issue a candidacy statement in the near future.

This is one of the most

This is one of the most slanted articles I have ever read in the Gazette. Shame on them. I don't know whether this guy, Mr. Lindsey, is good for Mariposa, but the Gazette should at least give him a fair chance instead of slanting their articles in favor of others. If this article is any indication of nepotism in Mariposa, maybe we need someone from outside to change things for the better. All I want is the best person to be the next Sheriff, whoever that may be.

Brian Muller has done a fine

Brian Muller has done a fine job as sheriff. We need someone like Brian who knows who you are and doesn't want to look down the end of his nose at you. Jimmy Allen was a great sheriff. You never went to a community function that he was not there. Wether it was a football game, Pancake breakfast what ever. Jim would be manning a grill or serving breakfast. Good man that Jimmy Allen. Who ever gets the postition these two men are someone to aspire to be like. Police the community is the job, sticking your nose in private citizens lives is not. It will take a special officer to fill these shoes.

Going to pancake breakfasts

Going to pancake breakfasts does not a great Sheriff make.

The Sack Lunch story is

The Sack Lunch story is covered in Snopes.com and as stated in the other post, Mr. Lindsey is not the author though he clearly has his name at the beginning and the end of the story. Mr. Lindsey truly must believe we have no concept of how the internet works in Mariposa. The only benefit of his running for Sheriff will be if he has his campaign material made in this county before his losing the election so that some local business will gain from his arrogance.

I just read Mr. Lindsey's

I just read Mr. Lindsey's campaign site. In that site, he has a story called "The Sack Lunch". Mr. Lindsey's web site does not indicate that he is NOT the author of that story. In fact, at first I thought he was relating something that happened to him. By about the 5th sentence, I realized that I had read that same exact story in Reader's Digest, while sitting at the doctor's office a few months ago, and Mr. Lindsey was not the author of the article. He should have given credit to the author of the story. Is he not aware that this is plagiarism?
