Thirty arrested in cock-fighting incident

Neighbors warned through 'Code Red' alert

Thirty people were arrested in Mariposa on Sunday after law enforcement busted a cock-fighting incident in the Yaqui Gulch Road area. All of those arrested face felony cruelty to animals charges.

The incident happened around mid-day Sunday on Heritage Lane. When the bust happened, some people fled into the nearby brush, prompting law enforcement to issue a “Code Red” alert to neighbors. The alert advised everyone to lock their homes and cars.

Further details of the incident will be forthcoming. See this week’s Mariposa Gazette for the complete story.

Rooster fighting is legal

Rooster fighting is legal here in my country, the Philippines. Millionaires and politicians and big wigs bet into these games.

P.S. Dog fights aren't

P.S. Dog fights aren't acceptable either.

Sorry if the jokes offended

Sorry if the jokes offended you. The intention was to make fun of the idiots that thought they could come here and do this.

I checked the booking log as

I checked the booking log as well, & even I don't recognize any of those names. They MUST be from the Valley, cause this has never happened before up here. Now, dog fights in the county I can understand, but a cock fight in the county, front page story of the Gazette in my opinion. Was it the Sheriff's Department that got suspicious, or did one of the neighbors' call it in?

This has happened here

This has happened here before. In 1977 or 1978, the sheriff's office busted a cock fighting ring on Varain Road. There were about 50 arrests.

In checking the booking log,

In checking the booking log, I don't recognize any of these folks. Are they from out of the area?

Is it really worse than me

Is it really worse than me slitting their throats then eating them? I can understand dog fighting, but dude- it's a chicken. Maybe I've just butchered too many animals. I was elbow deep in a pig cavity the other day.

No worse than a cat fight at

No worse than a cat fight at Miners...

Seriously though, I'm glad to

Seriously though, I'm glad to hear the local PD caught so many of the people who were there. I hope they get the maximum sentence and penalty.

Why don't we have a fund

Why don't we have a fund raiser for the chickens?

lol...I like the way you

lol...I like the way you think! You should consider running for Supervisor!

Will the owner of the

Will the owner of the property be able to take a tax break on this enterprize? Sound like agritourism doesn't it. There will definitely be an influx of revenue from this venture. People brought into the community etc. How much will the jail have to pay as far as the TOT tax on there guest. Will there be a chicken dinner served any time soon?

I can guarantee, you will not

I can guarantee, you will not get any votes from our district with that remark. We need someone who will stand up for our area and not be the joke of it. There is constant traffic, litter and obnoxious music all day and night. The neighbors here suspected something but because this family is behind locked gates even the sheriff couldn't get through. THis time they did. THis is sick animal cruelty and the people behind this, watching and gambling a slow, vicious, bloody, death for sport are extremely sick humans. This has nothing to do with hunting for hunger,or what animals you slaughter to feed your family. This type of sport IS NOT ACCEPTABLE HERE!!! ANIMAL CRUELTY IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. GET it OUT OF THIS COUNTY.

I'm a resident on Heritage

I'm a resident on Heritage Lane. You guys can make all the jokes you want. But when you live in a quiet area and most of the neighbors are very nice people who care about their property as we do, its disturbing to have constant traffic zooming in and out past our property all hours of the day and night because of these valley people. We know for a fact that the owner of the property where these cock fights were being held does not live on the property. He lives in brand new home in Merced because his wife didn't want to live in the country. He bought the old Falany ranch. This man and his family are originally from the Bay Area and sold his Mexican restaurant back some 4yrs ago and then purchased this ranch. He admitted knew NOTHING about horses but was going to learn so he could make more money in the show circuit and horse racing. So he purchased all types of livestock and now he has numerous race horses and Andalusions. While he was setting up his place for what we all thought was a horse ranch, he brought up all his compadres, weekend after weekend for months and years. They've all come to get comfortable enough to disturb our country peacefulness. They tear up our road by driving too fast even when hauling a horse trailer. They have no respect for the neighbors here. They play their kind of music from very early in the morning (sometimes as early as 9am) until very late at night. They throw trash out of their cars along Heritage Ln and think nothing of it. Quite frankly, and I think I'm able to speak on behalf of my neighbors, we'd like to see them all leave so we can have our clean and peaceful country life back. If this was on your road, I'm sure you wouldn't be joking about it then.

You live in a beautiful

You live in a beautiful neighborhood where people have chosen to live right...it is very sad that your neighbors have been so destructive and disrespectful...I had no idea...as amusing at it has been to read all of the funny comments, I too wish them gone.
