Wet and windy weather continued to pelt Mariposa County on Wednesday morning, as it had since Sunday. Heavy rain and wind caused all kinds of problems since the series of storms blew into California.
On Monday afternoon, high wind and saturated ground made a mess. A cedar tree fell in front of Mercy Ambulance headquarters, taking down a power line with it. The electrical hazard stranded ambulances in the yard until the lines could be moved from the ground.
Around the same time, a tree fell into the roof of a home in Ponderosa Basin. There was some damage, but no one was injured.
The power outage caused by the tree falling affected parts of Mariposa County for much of the afternoon. There were no widespread power outages in the county, however.
On Wednesday morning just before 8 a.m., the lights went out in the Bootjack and fairgrounds areas. PG&E’s Web site did not specify the cause of the outage, but winds were gusting to about 30 miles per hour around that time.
The temperature was dropping steadily, as well. At 7 a.m., the high temperature was 45 degrees. By 9 a.m., it had fallen to 41 degrees in Mariposa. Winds continued to gust to 25 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service predicts that heavy rain and possible thunderstorms will continue on Thursday, before tapering off on Friday. The weekend should be relatively dry.
