Two busted for burglary

Two Central Valley men are behind bars in Mariposa County after they allegedly burglarized a North County home.

Mariposa County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call from Stanislaus National Forest officers who had two people detained. The rangers had the men handcuffed and lying on the ground. Deputies were advised that the duo had consented to a search of the vehicle and that there was a loaded gun in it.

The first subject identified himself as James Aldridge, although he had a tattoo on the back of his neck that read “Bass.” Law enforcement later identified him as Timothy Bass, a convicted felon with ar- rest warrants out of Mariposa and Merced Counties.

Bass told deputies that he had gone camping in the area recently and decided to return. He said when they got there, they saw a Ford pickup with a gun in the cab. He added that there were some items in the bed of the pick-up, too.

The second man, who said he was Cody Unti, said he and Bass, who he continued to call James Aldridge, had a trailer full of stuff that didn’t belong to them because they found it and “were on their way down to the sheriff’s department sub-station to turn it in. Unti’s real name was later determined to be Korey.

When deputies took stock of what the men had, they found items that contained the name “James Pappas.” They went to his address and found a storage container with the lock cut off, a travel trailer with a broken window and another container that appeared to be broken into. They also found a box for a generator that resembled the one Unti and Bass had on their trailer.

The story about finding the stuff was apparently too far-fetched based on the evidence. Unti was arrested for burglary and possession of burglary tools, grand theft, resisting arrest, providing false identification information to an officer, being under the influence of a controlled substance and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is on parole and is being held at the Mariposa County Jail without bail.

Bass, also a convicted felon, was arrested for driving with a suspended license, burglary and related charges, resisting arrest, grand theft and giving false information to a peace officer. He is also being held at the Mariposa County Jail.

The Anderson Valley property the duo burglarized appears to not be habited regularly. No one was there at the time of the alleged crime.
