A man’s body was found in his truck at McClure Point on Monday. He is the apparent victim of a suicide, although the official cause of death has not been determined.

A Merced Irrigation District ranger found the man inside a locked trucked on Monday morning. He called Mariposa County Sheriff’s deputies to the scene. The man had covered his head with a flannel shirt and had a gunshot wound.

The man has been identified as William Gene Gooding, 50, of Denair. He did not leave a note, and had not been reported missing. He had, however, reportedly been depressed over the recent death of his wife.
