FNL prepares for mentoring program
Mariposa Safe Families is getting ready to kick off the Friday Night Live (FNL) Mentoring Program at Mariposa County High School. The program lasts for 16 weeks and runs for two hours, one day per week.
Students from Mariposa Middle School and Lake Don Pedro are transported to MCHS to meet with high school students under the supervision of adult advisors.
The FNL Mentoring Program helps bridge the gap between middle school and high school and also gives each student a chance to discuss challenges they face in day-to-day life and how to over come a variety of obstacles.
The mentoring program is a way for the MCHS students to become a positive role model and engage in a mutually beneficial relationship with a younger student.
The students learn communication skills, conflict resolution, team work, and active listening. They gain skills for future careers and earn experience that looks great on a resume for a job or college application. Becoming a mentor also introduces students to the concept of volunteerism and gives the students the opportunity to earn community service hours.
