No charges follow clinic lock down

A man who allegedly threatened to kill a hospice nurse and everyone else in the John C. Fremont Hospital Clinic has been released from jail without charges being filed. Matthew Christiani was arrested on Dec. 16 after the nurse reported the threats.

According to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, Christiani became upset because he was trying to get some prescription medications for a family member. The nurse told him on the phone that she was planning to visit, and that the prescriptions could be discussed when she arrived.

The nurse allegedly told Christiani that she would not be bring the medications with her. It was then that he became angry, cursing the woman and saying, “I’m going to kill you and all of you at the clinic.”

The nurse was understandably angry about the threat, but told deputies she thought he was making it out of frustration about his family member’s illness. She said she wasn’t sure if Christiani would carry out the threat.

The nurse’s supervisor was concerned enough to lock down the John C. Fremont Clinic and Hospital until law enforcement could find Christiani. When deputies went to find him, he was not home.

They found him at a home on Triangle Road, and he was arrested for making terrorist threats.

According to the report, Christiani told the deputy that his family member was running out of medication. He admitted to arguing with the nurse, but said he had never threatened to kill anyone.

The report was forwarded to the district attorney’s office, but no charges were filed against Christiani, and he was subsequently released from jail. District Attorney Bob Brown was not available for comment.
