In their first round contest at the Bret Harte basketball tournament Thursday afternoon, Mariposa dropped its first game of the season, bowing to talent-laden and unbeaten El Dorado, 64-55.

The game was close with Mariposa never trailing by more than a couple of buckets, but as time wound down the Grizzlies had to foul for gain control of the ball, and El Dorado converted on the free throws to spread the margin.

The loss leaves Mariposa at 3-1 on the season and it faces Right of Passage on Friday afternoon.
