First responders treat the driver of a CHP cruiser following a crash on Highway 49 South.Shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon a California Highway Patrol cruiser crashed about a half mile south of Chowchilla Mountain Road on Highway 49 South. CHP first reported the accident to be in the vicinity of the Mariposa Coffee Company, but within minutes rescue personnel were redirected and advised that the incident was south of Triangle Road.

There were no noticeable skid marks where the southbound vehicle left the road and traveled down a steep embankment, coming to rest on its wheels.

At this time, it is unknown whether the driver was a CHP officer or another authorized individual. He was treated at the scene by first responders and transported to John C. Fremont Hospital by Mercy Ambulance.
