Big weather changes are coming next week

Rain and snow predicted

After mild days and cool mornings, Mariposa County residents should brace for a huge change in the weather pattern. The National Weather Service is predicting rain and snow for almost all of next week.

The first storm is expected late Sunday and Monday, and while it is not particularly wet, it will be extremely cold. Snow levels, according to the NWS office in Hanford, could reach “almost to the valley floor” on Monday. Generally, the snow line is expected to be about 1,000 feet. Forecasters are still unsure about the amount of moisture this system will carry, however.

There will be a break in the weather on Tuesday, but another storm is expected Tuesday night and will continue through Thursday. The main concern with this system is the sub-tropical moisture it carries. This system will not be as cold, but could come with large amounts of rainfall and high winds.
