Summerlin receives recognition

ANDREA SUMMERLIN IS PICTURED AT THE WALL OF HONOR DEDICATION ON NOV. 7. SHE RETIRED FROM THE AIR FORCE AFTER 20 YEARS OF SERVICE. Andrea Summerlin, retired Master Sergeant, was recognized with other veterans during the Wall of Honor dedication on Nov. 7, in Fresno. Summerlin retired from the U.S. Air Force in December 2005 after serving over 20 years.

Summerlin is the daughter of Connie Waldron of Mariposa; granddaughter of Bud and the late Clydette Waldron of Mariposa; and sister of Theresa Cayous of Atwater. She remains active in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Merced River Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Wall of Honor pays tribute to men and women from all branches of the United States military services that have made the supreme sacrifice. In addition, it recognizes veterans who are alive and have served the United States of America during peace time and war, at home or abroad, in defense of the country. The Wall of Honor is located in the Blue Star Memorial Garden in front of the VA Hospital in Fresno.

The program included remarks by Al Perry, director, Veterans Administration Central California Healthcare System, Dr. Victor Davis Hanson, noted author and speaker, and Karen Meredith, American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. There was also a touching military tribute by William Dietzel, President, U.S. Air Power Museum Foundation, Inc. with music by the Gold Note Chorus and the Sounds of Freedom Military Band.
