Couterville prepares to celebrate
SANTA WILL ARRIVE IN COULTERVILLE ON SATURDAY, DEC. 19 AS PART OF THE CHRISTMAS IN COULTERVILLE CELEBRATION.
For more than 20 years, Santa has visited the firehouse in Coulterville spreading joy, laughter and bringing smiles to kids of all ages. During the past four years, what is now known, as “Christmas in Coulterville” has become quite the celebration. The fun and festivities of “Christmas in Coulterville” take place on Saturday, Dec. 19 from noon to 8 p.m.
Beginning at noon, Santa will ride down Main Street and be delivered by fire engine to Station 26 where he and Mrs. Claus will visit with children, give gifts and provide parents with a special photo opportunity. There is also a raffle. Each child will receive a ticket for a chance to win one of the donated bicycles.
The Coulterville Fire Brigade, the sponsor and host for this event, will serve refreshments. Those interested in being one of Santa’s helpers, can contact Gail Tyler at 878- 3015 or Debbie Cook at 878- 3227.
During the hours of 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the old schoolhouse at the corner of Broadway and Cemetery Streets, join the Coulterville Community Club for a traditional Christmas dinner. The dinner, hosted and sponsored by the Coulterville Community Club, has become an annual tradition. Melynda Morey, president of the Community Club and the committee prepare and serve the meal as their gift to the community.
Over 200 people attended the dinner last year. There is no charge for dinner, but there will be a special drawing with proceeds going toward the Christmas dinner fund. Drawing tickets will be sold the day of the event. Those interested in donating to the dinner or who want to volunteer the day of can contact Morey at 878- 3951 or Dale Silverman at 878- 3750.
Winter Wonderland will be held in the Cedar Room of the Hotel Jeffery from Dec. 5 to 19 during the hours of 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. In its fourth year, clubs, organizations and individuals have donated a decorated tree, wreath, garland or other holiday treasure to be raffled on Dec. 19.
Money raised from this event are specifically used to advertise and promote the Highway 132 corridor and the area’s history. Raffle items can be delivered to the Hotel Jeffery between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday until Nov. 30. At 6 p.m. on Dec. 19, kids can stop by for a special story time.
